Real or Plastic?

Really people, only one comment on ATH's Facelift? I know I kind of just sprung it on you and didn't even do a poll or anything but only one comment? For the record, the one comment came from my Bestie of long-standing, Traci (23 years and counting) who wanted to know if Slutty Vixen had made the changes. No, my super-hero/alter-ego did not make the changes and here's how you know: there is no black lace anywhere. SV totally would have made the background black lace to subconsciously suggest under-garments.

So let me have it. Love it or hate it? Love it but wish there was more color? Hate it and wondering what is up with all the polka-dots? Really don't care because you just come to see pictures of Hot Jeff?

Thinking about my blog's recent facelift got me thinking about cosmetic surgery. Now let's just get this out there...I'm not talking reconstructive surgery or surgery for any medical reasons. I am talking good old fashioned snip-it-if-its-draggin' or saggin'-surgery. Like for example, if I were going to go under the knife I would have my neck tucked (I have a disproportionately large neck), my boobs lifted, my belly and thighs sucked dry and my butt completely removed and replaced with Jessica Alba's. I would also have the freaky taken out of my pinky toes because why not, I'm already under and out of commission for 8 weeks and I really do have some freaky in my pinky toes.

I just don't see it happening though. I think we should try to improve our bodies with diet and exercise and then make peace with who we are and how we look. First of all, most of us have these "flaws" because of child bearing, breast feeding and aging. Aren't those all really wonderful things to embrace? To be proud of? To wear as a badge of honor? And, by the way, my Shrink just bumped my Celexa dosage up from 20mg to 30mg so if this all sounds a little unlike me its just because I'm medicated.

On the other hand I understand that life is short and shouldn't we try to be happy in that short time? If that means having a nose job or a boob job or a tummy tuck or a cheek lift of whatever else helps you feel a little better about yourself, isn't that ok? I could be persuaded, in fact I'm making the argument, that some people are so hindered by an outward feature that having cosmetic surgery may help them to be even more the person God created them to be.

So give it to me straight ladies--how do you feel about cosmetic surgery? And if I get one comment about breast reconstruction after a double mastectomy I'm going to come egg your house because that is totally NOT WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. Also, Christy from My Presidents suggested I comment on other people's blogs to increase traffic to my blog. I typically don't read other people's blogs because I find it messes with my own voice but I tried it and no kidding, one lady had 125 comments on one of her posts. 125 comments!! Are you kidding me? You guys so have your work cut out for you.

Well, I'm glad you said something! I read all of your posts in Google Reader, so I'm rarely, if ever, actually on your page. But, now that you mentioned it.... It looks amazing!! Love the new look! Keep the amazing posting coming. Also, do you have Twitter? Say what you will, but it could help you get more readership. Give it a try? LOVE your blog.

You mentioned me & my blog....giggle, giggle :)

Oh, and I have had a nose job purely for my self esteem in high school. Then I had to have another one because I ran into a door and messed it up.....its okay you can laugh!

If insurance would pay, I'd be all over a re-do. Jowls, boobs and a massive tummy tuck. It would be just my luck tho that I'd die under the knife and then my poor family would have to live with the humiliation of having such a rediculously vain wife/mom.

ooooooh you crack me up friend!
1. Yes, I LOVE the new look for the blog
2. I, too, have freaky pinky toes :)
3. Yes, for plastic surgery if you aren't Heidi Montag! I think it is great if you do it for the right reasons. If I could afford it, I'd be ALL OVER a tummy tuck (and lipo)...maybe someday when I'm rich and famous!
4. I know this is ridiculous, but I spend so much time retouching people behind the computer, that I mentally 'retouch' people when I meet them..I know, I'm TERRIBLE! But I can't help it! When I'm doing it for hours upon hours on the computer, I can't help but mentally retouch people in real life, and in my dreams. Sigh...I wish I could retouch myself in real life...guess that's what plastic surgeons are for-real life retouchers! ;)

Val beat me at saying Heidi Montag! Barf. I wouldn't do it because hubby loves my body just the way it is, although I don't necessarily always agree. But I'm not against it, as long as you know who you are and it doesn't change you inside.

Before children I thought that plastic surgery was, well, vain... of course back then my breasts were quite perky and just plain LOVELY. (tmi?) Now after breast-feeding 2 babies for 17 months each I feel like a quick lift/reattachment would be FANTASTIC! I mean, I have plenty of tissue to work with- no silicone- just wants things put back into place. Also, I have a good friend that I recently found out had lipo years ago to remedy some "problem areas" (she is SUPER athletic & runs marathons regularly) and it really shook my old stereotypes. She is a wonderful, well-adjusted Christian woman who I really admire/respect.

P.S. "Ehoff" (we know who you are!) does not get a vote because God gifted her with a body that rivals Gisele Bunchen's. Or however you spell it.

Mia, I don't know you or your friend, but aren't Christians to be in the world, not of the world? Cosmetic surgery, along with society's expectations of what a woman is supposed to look like, is definitely of the world.

I planned to get lipo last summer, but when I went to the consult, the plastic surgwon told me I should lose weight first. I was totally devastated. I wasn't trying to use lipo as weight reduction, just to clear out some lumps and bumps. So instead of feeling better about myself, I was left feeling worse.

i would totally do a boob lift and tummy tuck because of what my midgets have done to my bod, BUT i fear that in 20 years, it'll all look weird/ridiculous/like i didn't even have anything done. but, those could be a rockin' 20 years.

Rlt - in Mia's and her friend (also my friend)'s defense, she is truly a Christ follower. She did not have lipo to achieve a size 2 waist or make other people happy, she did it for herself. I see where you're coming from with saying "of the world" versus "in the world", but I disagree with labeling her in that way. This frieind prayed for months and months about the surgery, and actually had another cosmetic change planned but after all the prayer realized that it was something God didn't want.
Also, I feel that even the Godliest woman on earth feels the pressure of worldly expectations. And with God's support we can do His will and still feel great about ourselves, with or without cosmetic help.

RLT- yes you are right, but I can think of a lot of other things that are also 'of the world'...makeup, tatoos, jewelry. Almost everyone I know is 'of the world'. I'm not excusing it or saying it's okay, but I also don't think it's okay to judge others on their personal choices. Live how you deem fit for yourself, in accordance with your faith, and leave the judging to the ultimate judge. Emily, Mia and the friend in question are all my friends, and good Godly Christian women who I love and respect.
